The Electricity Billing Systems
General Overview: -
The Department of Electrical Services (DES) now uses several methods of
billing Consumers. The DES had a pilot project on prepaid metering in 1996 and since 1998
has started the prepaid metering system.
DES mainly uses its main billing system called the Electricity Billing
System (EBS) for its Consumer billings. The EBS allows the Consumer to pay their
electricity bill anywhere in Negara Brunei Darussalam, at any DES payment counter. A
Consumer may also request for a re-print of their electricity bill anywhere in Negara
Brunei Darussalam.
Analogue and electronic meters do the electricity metering of the Consumer. The
Consumer may also perform their own meter reading by filling in a prepaid Post Card for
meter reading and use the Post Office service to deliver the meter reading to DES. They
may also deliver the card to any DES counter services personally.
The DES is also embarking on a pilot project whereby the meter
reading may be electronically e-mail to DES. This pilot project is due to start in
July/August 1999.
